SALARY: R687,879 – R1,035,084 per annum (all-inclusive OSD salary package), (offer will be based on proven years of experience)

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Science degree (BSc) (Hon) in Natural/Earth Science or relevant qualification.
  • Compulsory registration with the South African Council of Natural Scientific Professions (SACNASP) as a professional Natural Scientist.
  • Three (3) years post-qualification natural scientific experience related to integrated Water Resource Management.
  • Valid unexpired driver’s license.
  • Knowledge of water quality, geochemistry, chemistry, botany, zoology, aquatic ecology, hydrology, and geo-hydrology.
  • Understanding of water-related environmental management legislations and policies.
  • Knowledge and understanding of policy formulation and development.
  • Sound knowledge of integration with all water resource components (surface water, groundwater, wetlands, and estuaries) into integrated water resource management and protection.
  • Understanding of program and project management.
  • Knowledge of financial management skills.
  • Computer literacy in GIS applications.
  • Ability to interpret data and results into applications.
  • Good interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent communication skills (both verbal and written).

DUTIES:

  • Develop and implement policies, strategies, and procedures for Sources Directed Control (SDC).
  • Review and recommend scientific projects.
  • Monitor progress on the implementation of projects related to water resources protection.
  • Coordinate stakeholder engagement relationships within the department and broader water sector.
  • Assist line function water resource management in the implementation of water resource protection requirements, remediation, and rehabilitation.
  • Provide technical service with regards to SDC to the Department of Water and Sanitation as part of the Chief Directorate: Water Ecosystems.
  • Mentor, train, and develop candidate scientists and others to promote skills, knowledge, and transfer.
